Appointment With Death

A SHORESIDE THEATRE MID-WINTER
MYSTERY THRILLER

Appointment With Death

In Appointment with Death, Agatha Christie, the most widely published author of all time (apart from Shakespeare) has crafted a gripping tale using her own travels to source exotic locations. Following an earlier sold out season of her “And Then There Were None” we are excited to present a second Agatha Christie mystery play.

In Jerusalem, a wealthy but dysfunctional family joins a tour to the legendary city of Petra in Jordan. Will these outcasts of society mingle with their fellow travellers – an American millionaire, an Irish politician, German psychiatrist and an English aristocrat – All characters in their own right. Pity the poor tour guide as he contends with frayed tempers, arrogant demands, romantic liaisons, jealousy, hate and suspicion. All in the burning sun and never-ending sand.

“I’m going to fight you for him and I shall win. I’ve got two strong weapons on my side = youth and sex!”

Escape the chill of mid-winter. Join us in a ‘roaring twenties’ expedition to the Middle East and guess who has an appointment with death.

LOVE INTRIGUE REVENGE

Staged under the stars in The PumpHouse Amphitheatre Much Ado About Nothing, one of Shakespeare’s most lively and delightful comedies alternates with Othello which transforms love into murderous jealousy.

Shoreside Theatre’s ever-popular summer season, now in its 18th year, of the greatest writer in the English language, is presented true to era. It is real Shakespeare and all the more enthralling for that. Book for both shows – special discounts apply.

MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING

Directed by James Bell

Much Ado About Nothing is a miracle of comic and dramatic suspense and gives us, in the bantering of Beatrice and Benedick, two of Shakespeare’s wittiest, most captivating pair of lovers. In contrast Claudio and Hero are a sweet young couple besotted with their love of one another.

Two plots are interwoven to form a volcanic fourth act, where, in a catastrophe of mistaken identity the apparent destruction of one marriage helps to bring about another.

OTHELLO

Directed by Carol Dumbleton

Set against Othello’s honesty, love and purity of principle this is as much a story of jealousy and a drama of manipulation. In Othello, Shakespeare created both his most poignant tragic hero and his darkest character. It is the traitor Iago who pulls the strings with unabashed wickedness and drives Othello to kill his wife Desdemona. As Othello’s adviser, Iago portrays an envious low ranking officer, full of bitterness who destroys lives just for the fun of it. He is a “bad guy” with no excuse other than his true depravity.
