The Stranger


Now in its twelfth year, this is a popular midwinter night out. We perform at the picturesque PumpHouse Theatre by Lake Pupuke and need actors and crew (techies, stage managers, ushers, builders and more) to make it happen.

In The Stranger, a gripping three act psychological thriller, Enid is seeking a new tenant for her flat. Soon to be married to her long-time fiancé, Dick, she is seduced by a stranger who appears at the door. They settle in an isolated country cottage, where things begin to unravel…

For actors, audition dates are:

  • Sunday 26th April 2pm
  • Monday 27th April 7pm

Auditions are at 18 Richards Ave, Forrest Hill. You only need to attend one audition time, and it will take about two hours.

These are group auditions that will involve reading script excerpts followed by some improv exercises. You do not need to prepare anything.

Characters

  • Enid Bradshaw — 25-40
    Protagonist, impulsive, pretty.
  • Gerald Strange — 25-45
    Antagonist, charming, handsome, and later manipulative and sinister.
  • Doris West — Any age
    Enid’s friend and flatmate.
  • Dick Lane — 25-45
    Stable, reserved, gentle. Seems older than he is.
  • Mrs Higgins — Any age
    Enid and Doris’ lively, bubbly housekeeper.
  • Mrs Birch — Any age
    Gerald and Enid’s drab, regimented housekeeper.

Participation is on a voluntary basis.
